Course Description:
This course is designed as an in-depth, two part study of Japanese cultural and Japanese business procedural differences. Attendees will learn in a lecture driven and hands-on blended learning approach. Attendees will experience a authentic formal tea ceremony, focusing on formal etiquette meanings. Individual creative learning through an interactive, hands-on method, through the art of Japanese flower sculpting, or Ikebana. Ikebana visually illustrates the Japanese way of expressing one’s self and their place among nature and self. Lecture and slideshow presentation will explain Japanese business greetings, both formal and informal. Meeting etiquette will focus on what is expected and appreciated in a typical formal Japanese business meeting. This will include both verbal and non-verbal communication by explaining common meanings and misinterpretations. Japanese business etiquette will be thoroughly explained through interactive group participation. Expectations after course completion will be an in-depth understanding of the Japanese way of thinking and expectations through formal tea ceremony, self-reflection from Ikebana, proper greetings, formal meetings, and dinner etiquettes.
